Elections for the Raqqa Civil Society Platform were held on Saturday 08 April 2017 in order to elect two delegates to the National Committee for the 2017 session as well as to elect the members of the local executive office for the Platform. Twenty-nine participants attended, including 10 persons representing 10 organization with the rest being independents. Eleven of the participants were women.

 

The electoral conference began with the announcement of the opening of candidacy. The voting process was done by secret ballot. The winning candidates were Widad al-Ahmad with 27 votes and Abdul Qader Laila with 20 votes. They will serve as the two delegates to the National Committee for the Raqqa Platform in 2017.

 

Five members of the local executive office of the platform were elected:

Taif al-Haj (independent), Darien Hassan (independent), Mr. Abdullah Assaf (representative of the Teachers’ Association), Maher Shado (representative of the camps) and Omar Atti (representative of Kurdish activities in Raqqa).
