Recent decisions by the Lebanese government affecting the status of Syrian refugees have once again been brought to the center of attention in Lebanon. These decisions have been pursued without any consideration by the Lebanese government for the countless reasons that led Syrians to leave their country. In many respects, the situation of Syrian refugees in Lebanon may be no less severe than the pressures and abuses they suffered through in Syria. Recently, the Lebanese government has tried to increase pressure on these refugees, driven by the plans of the Government of Syria (GoS) and its Russian ally: specifically, to push the refugees back to Syria and to convey to the international community that the war is over and that the time has come for reconstruction.
