For three days he has been running and carrying in his arms his young children Najm and Sarah, escaping from one place to another between the rubble of the destroyed houses and neighbourhoods, and under the roar of aircraft. He scrambles to save and protect them from the missiles and the barrel bombs while screaming, “Save only our children, the aircraft buried my wife, and the bombers destroyed our houses, it’s all right, it’s all right, but only save our children, our innocent children”. (Rahim, the town of Al-Chifouniyah, Eastern Ghouta)

Rahim and the many more cries for help from the besieged civilians in Eastern Ghouta are not enough to mobilize the international community to save children and women from the mass killings, war crimes and crimes against humanity that the Syrian regime and its allies commit systematically against its civilians.

Under the eyes of the United Nations and the international community, the Syrian government and its allies commit massacre after massacre of the besieged civilians in Eastern Ghouta. They use all kinds of heavy and medium weapons to destroy the region and what remains of its civilian inhabitants under the pretext of “fighting terrorism”, without any considerations to humanitarian and international laws, and ignoring the fourth Geneva Convention regarding the protection of civilians in times of war.

The Syrian Civic Platform strongly condemns the practices of the Syrian regime and its allies against the civilians, and calls on the United Nations and the international community to take immediate actions to put an end to these war crimes, to protect the civilians, rescue the wounded and injured, to open a corridor to enable the entry of medical and relief assistance, and to release an urgent resolution of the Security Council to immediately stop and prevent war crimes and protect civilians in Eastern Ghouta.
